Memories 5-7, Skill 1
Teepo clone con man. Form of a small arrow. Stab yourself. 4/5 uses remaining.
Sidequest! The party hears stories of a merchant who sells talking dolls like Teepo. They track him down and catch him in the middle of his sales pitch, but as they confront him they realize they're not really talking - they're just using a rock called echore to play back pre-recorded lines, and after people buy the dolls, it will wear off and they'll go silent. They still don't know what Teepo is.
The spirits are dying. This must be the work of spyrix. Form of a rose made of edible gold flakes. Eat a petal. 3/4 uses remaining.
Youtube. The opening to the game. Milla is meditating in her shrine (with the Four Great Spirits) when she senses spirits dying. She suspects it's because of spyrix. With the Four Great Spirits behind her, she departs for Fennmont.
Meeting Gaius. Alvin went too far this time?? escaping, fighting Wingul and Presa. Form of a flower. Pluck a petal. 6/7 uses remaining.
Youtube. The party is granted an audience with the King of Auj Oule - or rather, the king requested to meet with Milla. They leave Teepo with a guard and head into the audience chamber. Gaius and two of his Chimeriad (Jiao and Wingul) are present. They confront Gaius on a number of subjects - Jude tells him a war with Rashugal would be terrible for both nations, Leia says they're trying to destroy one of Rashugal's weapons and would like his help, and Rowen asks about the booster laboratory in the Royal Hunting Grounds. Milla confronts Gaius and says he's abandoned his duty to his subjects and was conducting experiments on children, but Wingul says the laboratory was entirely his responsibility, the experiments were humane, and it was a haven for the children there. Elize starts to speak up about herself, and Wingul and Jiao exchange a significant look.
Gaius confronts Jude and asks him if he even knows what it takes to live a happy life. Jude hedges, but Milla steps in to answer that it requires the freedom to choose your own path in life. Jude agrees with her. It takes freedom!! Gaius disagrees. He says that the worst thing that can happen in life is losing your path and being lost, and it's the responsibility of a ruler to lay out the path for his citizens. Milla isn't particularly impressed.
Gaius then tells Milla that he knows she stole the key from the laboratory in Fennmont - the key to the Lance of Kresnik - and asks her for it. She refuses, saying that the key was not meant for human hands. Gaius then asks Alvin to tell them where it is, much to the party's shock. Alvin walks foward and does actually tell him, much to the party's further shock - she gave it to Ivar in Nia Khera.
At that point Presa runs in, alarmed. She's surprised to see Alvin there, but Gaius orders her to ignore them and give her report. She reports that the Rashugal army invaded Hamil - casualties were high, and there was the sign of the power of a Great Spirit. Milla is shocked - she would know if the Four Great Spirits were released. Maybe it was the Lance, and they built a new key? Gaius says that in that case they're declaring war, and says that having Maxwell as a captive would be useful. Soldiers descend on them, but Teepo comes to life, and they use the distraction to break their line and escape. Alvin stays behind with a flippant wave.
Once they're out of the castle, Elize pauses to be upset over this - "Alvin really was a big fat liar." Rowen: "I assumed he had his reasons, but he's gone too far this time."
Outside, the gates are closed, but Rowen says they can open them if they all pour their mana into the control plates at approximately the same time. Leia is intimidated because everyone else seems to know what they're doing and they finish before her, as soldiers rush out of the castle at them. But Milla steps in and helps her, telling her to calm down, and to "Stop thinking you're inferior to anyone here."
As they escape further, they're stopped by Wingul and Presa. Milla says that if Presa was with Gaius the whole time, they've been after them since Fennmont. "Al sold you out to His Highness way back in Nia Khera." Jude sulkily says that he was on their side the whole time, but Presa disagrees. "I'll leave our relationship to your imagination. All I'll say is this: Al drifts from one group to the next like a ship without a compass. Trying to plot his course is impossible. Serves you right for trusting him."
Wingul steps forward to confront them, and after some argument, uses his booster to transform, all his hair turning white as he starts speaking in tongues (apparently Long Dau). They fight. After defeating them, they're exhausted but not dead. Milla tries to continue, but Jude stops her to point out more soliders are coming. They give up and continue to escape the city.
Skill: Basic swordsmanship. Form of a really sour jawbreaker.
What it says! Milla uses a light one-handed sword to fight, usually in tandem with close-range magic (though obviously she doesn't have that back yet). Alvin tought her the basics of swordmanship over the course of a day or two, but other than that it's mostly experience and intuition... she's very good at it anyway.
